Former Australian prime minister Tony Abbott has been nominated to Fox Corp's board of directors. The rightwing politician is a controversial figure who's called climate change science "absolute crap." The nomination came just a day after Lachlan Murdoch took the reins of the Fox media empire. Abbott and Johnson "bring skills, experience and perspectives that will contribute to the board and benefit Fox," Lachlan Murdoch said in a press release. A representative for Lachlan Murdoch declined to comment, and Abbott did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Insider, made outside normal working hours.

NEW YORK (AP) — The departure of Rupert Murdoch as the leader of Fox’s parent company and his News Corp. media holdings after decades at the helm is unlikely to have as much of an impact on conservative media overall as it would have a decade ago. “I think if Rupert Murdoch had stepped down in 2000 it would have had a much greater impact," said Howard Polskin, whose website The Righting.com monitors conservative media. "The conservative media landscape is just much more diverse now.”Fox News' website had nearly 74.8 million viewers in July 2023, while the No. Conservative media personalities such as Tucker Carlson, who was ousted by Fox in April, Daily Wire podcaster Ben Shapiro, and talk show host and podcaster Megyn Kelly, also a former Fox host, are increasingly influential as well. Fox News president Jay Wallace said North Korean propaganda has more nuance than Lou Dobbs. Wallace's comments about Dobbs were cited in a court filing by Dominion Voting Systems. Wallace said in September 2020 that "the North Koreans do a more nuanced show" than Dobbs, per a filing from Dominion Voting Systems released on Thursday.
